Favourite Read-aloud Books in Preschool Storytime
Canadian author Barbara Reid is a favorite in Preschool story time. Come to the library with your child and have fun together listening to Reid's stories. Enjoy the bright colourful pictures that she has created using Plasticine! Picture a Tree is Barbara Reid’s newest book and you’ll be amazed at the things your child can discover in the bright colourful pictures of trees. Spend time together at home too, letting your child’s imagination run wild. Picture a Tree is one of TPL’s 2011 Top Picks for Kids Under Five. Preschoolers can also have lots of fun learning about colours, animals and numbers with One Gray Mouse, written by Katherine Burton and illustrated by Kim Fernandes. This rhyming picture book is also illustrated using modeling clay – Kim Fernandes uses Fimo to create the lively 3D illustrations. Play with your preschooler as they point out familiar objects and animals in the clear, bold pictures. Fernandes has illustrated other books in the Little Mouse series available at the library – Sleepy Little Mouse, Busy Little Mouse.
Hugless Douglas by David Melling is a playful story about a lovable bear in search of a hug. There’s lots to have fun with in the book. Pretend to be Douglas as he tries out different hugs until he finds the best one at the end. Play with the story and your child as you read aloud together. Point out funny pictures and actions going on in the story. Remember, reading stories aloud will help your child develop a love of reading. Have fun with the stories, and play games with the pictures and words. It should be fun and enjoyable! Melling's newest book, Don't Worry, Douglas!, is a follow-up story about Douglas as he worries about what happens to his new hat. Enjoy the same character with a new story!
