Another Christmas movie!?!? We can help!
You turn on the tv and all that’s on are reruns and more Christmas
movies. What’s a person to do? May we suggest checking out some guides to
help you choose a movie that you’ve never seen? Or, perhaps you'd like to watch a previously seen film a second time, after you've read a review?
Another “girlie” guide is Rough guide to
chick flicks (2006), but if you’re looking for something a bit different, try
Neo-feminist cinema (2011). How
about Mother-daughter movies: 101 films
to see together (2004)?
The
guides for men are in need of updating, if anyone out there would like to take
on this project. The only guide
specifically for men, The Manly movie guide was published in 1997.
But
there are other guides to help you choose something appropriate.
Maybe
you want to watch movies by theme, and we can help there, as well, with:
1001
movies you must see before you die, 101 gangster movies you must see before you
die, 101 action movies you must see before you die, and 500 essential cult
movies.
For
a broader range, choose :Film-ol-o-gy: a movie a day guide to a complete film education
Maybe
what you’d really like to do is settle in for a really bad film – one that will
make you want to throw popcorn at the screen – there’s lists for those, too!
Official
Razzie movie guide: enjoying the best of Hollywood’s worst (2005) and
Your
movie sucks (by Roger Ebert) (2007).
But
what if you’ve seen all those and don’t want to watch them again?
Leonard
Maltin’s 151 best movies you’ve never seen (2010) – have you ever heard of “Son
of Rambow” (not a typo), “Kontroll” or “Prisoner of Paradise”?
Last
but not least, there’s Hollywood movies on the couch: a psychoanalyst examines
15 famous films (2011) – see what he has to say about “When Harry met Sally” or
“The Birds”.
Happy viewing!
