Get Your Kids Moving

Canadian children and teens are not getting enough exercise – spending between six to nine hours in various sedentary states. Youth are viewing screens / hanging out – but they are not getting out and about. Active Healthy Kids Canada’s 2014 Report Card rated activity levels of children in 14 countries. Compared with children in New Zealand, Mexico, Kenya, Norway, US and Ireland, Canadian children recieved a grade of D- in overall physical activity.

ParticipAction’s CEO says Canadian paren'ts are looking for structured programs to get their kids moving. Active Healthy Kids report says less than 37% of paren'ts play with their kids. This report also found that when school administrators in New Zealand removed playground restrictions such as no ball playing in this area, climbing trees and skateboarding has lead to a decrease in bullying.
