Regulated Professions in Ontario

Many professions in Ontario and the rest of Canada require you to have a license to practice in that profession. These are called regulated professions because they are administered by government regulations. Regulations exist to protect the public from people who are unqualified to practice a profession.

Most information about regulated professions is available on Internet sites for newcomers to Canada who are seeking relicensing—permission to practice their profession or trade in Canada. Licensing applies to both people born in Canada and newcomers who received their training in other countries.

Let’s find out which professions are regulated in Ontario…

The Ontario Government also provides a variety of programs and services for newcomers working in regulated professions. The section Working in Ontario gives you detailed information on how to work in a profession or trade, including the names of the regulatory bodies.  To find more information and resources on how to get licensed, to get additional help and to find work in that profession in Ontario, scroll down to the list of regulated professions on the Working in Ontario page and click on the one you’re interested in.
