A Pizza Post – National Pizza Day
It's time for another delicious "holiday" – February 9th is National Pizza Day.
So many items pop-up when you search for “pizza” in the Toronto Public Library’s catalogue that you might think we celebrate Pizza Day every day (and who wouldn’t want to do that?!).
Why not think outside the pizza box and do a little reading, learning, and creating this Pizza Day?
We have pizza stories for kids of all ages:
How to Eat Pizza by Jon Burgerman (Ages 5-9).
Pizza-Pie Snowman by Valeri Gorbachev (Ages 3-6).
Pizza for Pirates by Adam Guillain (Ages 4-7).
Case of the Secret Sauce (Pete and Penny's Pizza Puzzle Series) by Aaron Rosenberg (Ages 5-8).
The Pizza Mystery (The Boxcar Children Graphic Novel Series) by Rob M. Worley (Ages 8-12).
And there are quite a few books about pizza and poetry:
Nothing Beats a Pizza by Loris Lesynski (Ages 4-10).
Pizza, Pigs, and Poetry: How to Write a Poem by Jack Prelutsky (Ages 9-12).
A Pizza the Size of the Sun: Poems by Jack Prelutsky (Ages 8-12).
Of course there are books about pizza and food:
Who Wants Pizza?: The Kids Guide to the History, Science, and Culture of Food by Jan Thornhill (Ages 7-12).
But you can also find “pizza” in some non-fiction books that aren’t really about pizza at all:
Did Dinosaurs Eat Pizza?: Mysteries Science hasn't Solved by Lenny Hort (Ages 6-9).
Babies Don't Eat Pizza: A Big Kids' Book about Baby Brothers and Baby Sisters by Dianne Danzig (Ages 6-10).
Clay Charm Magic!: 25 Amazing, Teeny-Tiny Projects to Make with Polymer Clay by Helga Jiang (Ages 9-12).
And don’t forget about the books that show you how to make pizza (because the best way to celebrate Pizza Day is to actually eat some pizza!):
Kids Cook! by Ruth Owen (Ages 7-10).
Roly-Poly Ravioli and Other Italian Dishes by Nick Fauchald (Ages 7-10).
Super Snacks by Bobbie Kalman (Ages 7-12).
Breakfast Blast by Bobbie Kalman (Ages 7-12).
Hold the Anchovies!: A Book about Pizza by Shelley Rotner (Ages 5-8).
So grab a slice, pick up a book, and enjoy this yummy holiday!
