Schools Out

Summer vacation is now upon us. So many things to do and so little time to do it. You have 9 weeks of time to condense and much life and fun and experience into as possible.

What are you going to do?

Are you going to join our summer reading club? Do you have to get a job and earn money? Do you get to spend the whole summer playing runescape at the library? Or are you playing some other video game at home? Are you looking after your younger sibling? Are they joining the summer reading club for younger kids?

Here is a little suggestion, make a list of all the things you want to do this summer. All the events you want to attend, all the movies you want to see, books you want to read, friends you want to hang out with,  and then do those things. When you have accomplished something – then cross it off the list.

I bet that by the end of the summer you will have accomplished more than you thought you would.

mainly because he refuses to grow up. He reads as much esoteric stuff
as he can.

  7. I’ve never actually tried making lists like that during summer vacation. I usually do lists during the school year, but I think I might try it… I joined this reading club, so maybe I’ll make a list of books I’ll read and have read this summer! I’ve already finished my first book of the holiday. 😛

  17. Joanne: the online presence of the club is considerably expanded from last year. It was also called “Words Out” last year. This is a rather new venture for the library, so we’re still tweaking things. And we will of course have a thread closer to the end of the summer asking for teen feedback!

  19. Making a list is a good idea.
I need to make sure I don’t spend all my time on the comp on Facebook… would be a waste of a summer, but not unlikely (?)

  21. I know this is sort of nerdy, but I think that there are some errors in the first little paragraph of the article.
But otherwise, I think that the message is very good. Though I won’t make a list (don’t like feeling forced to do things), I will try and make my summer a little more enjoying and memorable.
I’m joining the summer reading clubs, and I’m trying to get my older sister to bring me to New York with her and reconnect the Internet, for Pete’s sake!
P.S. Please don’t point out any errors that I might have in my comment.
    🙂

  31. I love to read graphic novels and sometimes I would read teens novels. Since it’s summer break it’s kinda boring, but I’m still happy. This reading club is interesting… I don’t really count how many books I read…but, I want to finish the series for “House of Night” or something like that. I also hope to have a fantastic time here and reading more books.

and by the way, happy birthday Canada! I went to downtown on Canada’s day, there were a lot of people.

  37. I wanted to do A LOT this summer. I applied for 50 jobs, and only 3 called me for interview; and i failed in all three for them. (WHAT A LUCK!)Well, i don’t care, I GIVE UP! But i have a lot of other things I wanna do. 😉 I am preparing for the “Brain Bee Contest” by Mac Master. I am also preparing for G1 to write a day after my 16th Birthday, aug11. I also want to read many books. I have already read a few this summer. I am also reading the next year’s (grade 11) text books, so i get a head start. I already got 651 volunteer hours, so I think I will take a break. Well, give me more ideas, what are you doing for the summer?

I did last year and won a $25 gift card to the cinemas… Unfortunately I lost my wallet which contained the gift card and $25… I’m like that.. ^^

  41. Well there isn’t much to do at home, so i plan to go to the library every so often. I really enjoy reading all books, but i most enjoy graphic novels.
i don’t only go to the library, i also go out and go shopping with my paren’ts.
if i’m not doing any of those things, i guess i just stay home and play the computer. That’s basically my whole summer.

  45. In the past, I would make a to-do list a few weeks before the summer starts and try to follow through with the list as the summer progresses. But, just like New Year’s resolutions, I never do all of the things on the list. Therefore, this summer, I’ve decided to abolish the list and go with the flow. I’ll just do whatever comes to mind and enjoy the last stress-free summer I guess I’ll have before I go to university in the fall. So far, I’ve read some very interesting novels (Word Out!) and caught up with my favourite TV series.

  47. Lol, Renee Lucky you won last year but be more careful with your wallet 😉
I wanted to give a list of suggestions for all of the lonely, bored teens out there like my self.
    – If you like manga or anime, go to there links there is loads of stuff to read and watch! http://www.crunchyroll.com/media-517342/naruto-shippuden-93/
http://www.mangafox.com ( read unlimited manga online!)
    – Also i suggest you all to find (google, library etc.) contests and scholarships you can participate in, it’s worth it!
    – Have some family time! or else you will regret it later 😉
    – decorate your room, give it a NEW look! a theme…
    – Oh yeah search for jobs.. (well, it is REALLY tuff – saying from experience)
    – Oh yeah, stay HAPPY 🙂 never be gloomy and sad for any reason, Life is a gift – you should enjoy every moment while it lasts! ( I am saying this because teenagers especially have mood swings and life can be hard… I know)
    – well bye for now! =)
