Literary Holiday Gifts

The gift-giving season is almost upon us, and I thought that it might be fun to make a couple of posts about great gifts for the library- or book-lover in your life.

The first (and perhaps most unique) idea I've encountered comes from a great Canadian company called PosterText. This innovative company creates posters using the ENTIRE text of a book, arranged to depict a memorable scene from the novel. Right now there are a number of classics available, from Sherlock Holmes to The Count of Monte Cristo, but the company can also create a custom poster using a text of your choosing.

Here's an exmple of the poster for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland:

It's hard to make out at this size, but this is the whole book – nifty, huh? The best part is, a lot of these posters are available for under $35 CAD. If you're a paren't hoping to get your children into the classics, I might recommend checking out the book from the TPL Catalogue first, but this is a really unique way to show your love of reading. I can just imagine what a striking decorative statement some of these posters would look framed!

Visit the PosterText website for more information, or come in to Agincourt and browse our fiction section if you're looking for ideas for a custom poster!
