From September 30 to October 2, people across the country will participate in thousands of free, interactive activities that celebrate the world of artists, historians, architects and designers at work in their community. 

Welcome to Culture Days at Toronto Public Library!

If you are interested in drama and theatre, be sure to check out one of our featured playwrights on Friday September 30th.

Marjorie Chan

AG MarjorieChan Join us at Agincourt Branch from 7- 8pm for a reading by renowned playwright and actress Marjorie Chan.  Marjorie is a theatre artist based in Toronto, working in stage, screen and radio.  She is the recipient of the Dora Mavor Moore Award in performance as well as the prestigious K.M. Hunter Artists’ Award in Theatre. 

Marjorie’s plays include The Madness of the Square, A Nanking Winter and China DollMarjorie is currently the Associate Artistic Director of Cahoots Theatre Projects where she runs “Crossing Gibraltar”, a theatre training, outreach and performance program for youth from refugee and newcomer backgrounds.  Marjorie has voiced many CBC radio dramas and has appeared in such television series as Being Erica, Degrassi and Warehouse 13. 

 

Beverley Cooper

Pape Beverley Cooper DSCN9427_2 The same night, over at Pape Danforth Branch, award-winning Canadian playwright Beverley Cooper will be reading selections from her works from 7-8:15pm. Beverley has written for theatre, TV and film. Her writing for theatre includes Thin Ice, Clue in the Fast Lane, the critically acclaimed The Eyes of Heaven and The Woman in White. Her play Innocence Lost: A Play about Steven Truscott was a sold-out hit at the Blyth Festival in both the 2008 and 2009 seasons and was nominated for a Governor General’s Literary Award.
