A great way to find interesting websites!

We teach a number of basic computer classes here at Agincourt Branch: they are fun, informative and free.  You can find out information about the computer classes, and other great adult programs we offer here, or give us a call.

One of the classes we teach is called Web Basics, and we tell students there are three ways to search for websites:

  1. when you know where you are going (use a URL or web address)
  2.  when you want to explore( use a search engine)
  3.  when you want the exploring done for you (use a subject directory)

However, I have lately discovered another, more random way to find websites: StumbleUpon.  I have become addicted to stumbling, and have found many, many new favourite websites.

StumbleUpon_logoAccording to Wikipedia, StumbleUpon is "  discovery engine (a form of web search engine) that finds and recommends web content to its users".

You simply sign up for an StumbleUpon account, then you choose categories that interest you (mine include cats, books, gardening and cooking).  Press the "Stumble" button, and are introduced to a new, random website on the topic of your choice.  You can "like" or "dislike" the website, so StumbleUpon can fine tune which websites it gives you.  Have some spare time?  Why not give it a try?
