Meditation Saturdays

Maryvale Branch aims to provide something for everyone, including providing quality fitness and wellness programming. We encourage everyone, no matter their fitness level or skill, to come out and try our "Meditation Saturdays" program that we will be running for four Saturdays starting September 19.

Class will begin with some simple yoga exercises to help rejuvenate your body and calm your mind. It will be followed by deep breathing exercises, soothing mantra meditation, japa meditation and musical meditation. We hope you will leave feeling tranquil and relaxed!

Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, and Dec. 12 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Memory and Dementia

Situations involving memory loss and confusion are extremely difficult for caregivers and families, and require a lot of patience and understanding. In partnership with CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), please join us for this educational workshop,“Memory & Dementia,” where we will explore the nature of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.

Participants will become familiar with underlying causes of dementia, the risk factors for developing dementia, and prevention strategies. We will also discuss the current treatment optons available and the research being done to advance the field.

Gibson House visits Maryvale

Summer vacation is over and it’s time to get ready for some fun fall activities. Are you interested in knowing more about the Gibson House Museum? The Gibson House Museum is one of 10 historic museums run by the City of Toronto. Built in 1851, Gibson House was the home of Scottish immigrant David Gibson and his family.

On October 31st, the Gibson House Museum staff will bring the history of Gibson House and fun activities to Maryvale Branch. Children ages 5-12 are welcome to join costumed interpreters from the Gibson House Museum and discover historic toys and games! These hands-on activities are available for everyone to come and play with at the library. Children will also be invited to make a small toy to take home!

Oct. 31, 2015 from 2 – 3 p.m.
