Beat the Heat @ the Library!

Hotweather

It’s been sizzling hot these past few days. Here are some ideas on ways to cool down at the library.

1) Catch up on the latest news by reading some of the great magazines available at the library.

Albert Campbell branch subscribes to wide selection of magazine titles including Time, MacLean’s, The Economist, and for those interested in some lighter reading – People and US Weekly.

2) Make use of the library’s free WiFi to surf the Internet.

Have a laptop? Bring it to any Toronto Public Library branch and use the FREE WiFi service to surf the Web. If you don’t have a laptop you can also use one of the library’s PC’s, but make sure to Reserve a Computer online or by calling your local branch. Computers book up fast in the summer!

3) Enjoy a movie with the whole family.

A family-friendly movie will be shown every Thursday afternoon this summer from 2:00pm – 4:00pm in Albert Campbell’s Auditorium. Feel free to bring your own popcorn or snacks.

4) Learn something new! The summer is a perfect opportunity to discover a new hobby, develop a new skill, or learn more on a topic that interests you.

Are you interested in knitting, learning to swim, or researching your ancestry? Ask a Librarian for assistance in finding the best resources for your topic. You might just discover a new talent or passion!

5) Enjoy your coffee or snack without a time limit!

Personally, I hate those annoying signs in many coffee shops or fast food restaurants limiting customers to 20 or 30 minutes of seating time. I understand that people need to move on eventually so that others have access to a seat, but let’s face it, the last thing we want on a hot day is to feel pressured to leave a nicely air-conditioned space. Relax and take your time enjoying a coffee or snack at the library for as long as you want – during open hours of course.  Just remember to throw away your garbage when you’re done.
