I like Haggis and Robbie Burns too …

The Robbie Burns Day Tribute with Marla Brennan intrigues me – it's free – there's a traditional Scots sing-along with music and guitar along with poetry reading ! What's not to like !

You hear the name Robbie Burns a lot so you may be interested in reading a biography about him:

The bard Robert Burns a biography    Auld lang syne

Dirt & deity a life of Robert Burns     Robert Burns the patriot bard

And although he's a cultural icon of Scotland you may not be familiar with his poetry so why not try and read a few of them?

Poems and songs    Robert Burns selected poems     The works of Robert Burns with an introduction and bibliography.

If you ever wondered what Robbie Burns might have sounded like then ….

And if you're wondering about some Scottish clans and tartans then the following may appeal:

Scottish clans and tartans    The little book of Scottish clans    Collins Scottish clan & family encyclopedia

Marla will be  practising a brogue accent…but in the meanwhile if you're looking to explore the Gaelic language the library may be able to help:

Gaelic-English, English-Gaelic dictionary    Songs of Gaelic Scotland.    Gaelic [complete audio CD program]

So why not come out and join in the fun to celebrate Robbie Burns Day with Marla Brennan :

Tue Jan 18, 2011 | 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Beeton Auditorium, Toronto Reference Library
or
Tue Jan 25, 2011 | 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Mount Pleasant

I suspect it will be as much fun as these as these folks are having dancing to the music of Jimmy Shand!

And if you can get into the spirit like these kids are doing it will be grand!
