I miss Joan Rivers @ The OSCARS’ Red Carpet
Today I spent the afternoon watching Joan Rivers' autobiographical documentary A Piece of Work. I thought it was poignant and insightful – a bit funny – and quite honestly revealing. Did you know she turned 75 recently ? I enjoyed it and it's available at 49 library branches.
But later in the evening as I was watching the Red Carpet fashions and interviews I realized how much I miss her on the red carpet – she was funny – irreverant – knew a bit about fashion and was kind of like the outrageous great aunt most of us had growing up who could and would say anything that came into her mind.
I was very happy to hear E TV talk about her though and know I will enjoy her post show analysis of the fashion and events.
If you're interested in the history of the Oscars there are lots of books available from the library that look at the history, scandals and also the fashion – almost like having your very own Joan Rivers at your fingertips. So enjoy!
PS Natalie Portman – you looked beautiful in your purple Rodarte dress…wow !

She was something to watch on the Red Carpet. Now I get my fix watching her the night after on her show “Fashion Police” (at 10 pm).
Elvina, Joan certainly rocks on that show!
Make sure you get the DVD documentary – very interesting.
thanks for the comment – Bill V
What a shame the more and more irrelevant Oscars didn’t nominate this excellent film for best documentary. Joan’s the best and I can only imagine what a great show she would put on if she was ever offered to host the Academy Awards! Alas, Hollywood doesn’t get it, though. They keep the ceremony so family-friendly and politically-correct that it simply puts me to sleep. And all the copy-cats on the red carpet simply have no idea what they’re doing. Joan & Melissa invented that medium and nobody can emulate their success.
I hope everybody checks out Joan’s documentary. It’s awesome!
I too thought this was an excellent, enjoyable, revealing documentary. Lot’s of fun. Thanks for recommending it!
