“In Residence” TPL has a Lot to Offer: Writers, Illustrators, Entrepreneurs, Artists and More
Toronto Public Library has vibrant programming at all of our branches.
One of the more interesting, and ever changing, features of our programs is the "In Residence" series. They feature experts and members of the community connecting with the public and offering either one on one opportunities or more broadly based traditional types of programs. If there is someone below who tickles your fancy, feel free to share this info with budding folks all over (we appreciate you sharing this blog on your own social media – it helps us get the word out).
2017 Entrepreneur in Residence
Get small business help from the library's new Entrepreneur in Residence, Donovan Dill (Business Owner, Business Consultant, and Workshop Provider). He's offering six programs between October and November at branches located throughout the City.
2017 Illustrator in Residence
Artist Ashley Barron is our 2017 Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence based out of Northern District during October.
During the residency, a children's book illustrator presents workshops, art activities and portfolio reviews for adults, teens and children. The Illustrator in Residence Program honours the memory of Illustrator Joanne Fitzgerald (1956-2011). You can read one of Ashley's guest blog posts here.
The Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence Program is a joint program of IBBY Canada, Toronto Public Library, the Canadian Urban Libraries Council and the Young Family.
2017 Innovator in Residence
The Innovator in Residence program offers a fun and hands-on way to learn about the technology offered at the library's Digital Innovation Hubs. This Fall, we welcome back three previous Innovators – Derek Quenneville (3D Printing), Elli Raynai (Virtual Reality Filmmaking), and Yifat Shaik (3D and Game Design) – to celebrate our three newest Digital Innovation Hub locations which opened earlier this Spring: Agincourt, Albion and Downsview. Even their photos are innovative !
2017 Writer in Residence
Peter Vronsky, investigative historian, is Toronto Public Library's Fall Writer in Residence. Writers of non-fiction history or true crime are invited to submit manuscripts for review and feedback.
2017 Comic Artist in Residence
Meet Young Voices Comic Artist Tory Woollcott, who helps teens make their own comics. She's got workshops and office hours during October and November.
2017 Artists in the Library
The Artists in the Library program, presented in partnership with the Toronto Arts Council, brings artists in residence to branches in neighbourhoods across the city to give the public hands-on experience creating art. This year, the program runs from September to December at 10 library branches and participants will enjoy a variety of experiences including dance, storytelling, rock camp for girls and much more.
