The Story

Lunenburg is Norm Foster at his best. A warm and intimate, comedic exploration of the regret people experience in their lives regarding the unrealized dreams of youth, past mistakes and disappointing outcomes. This regret can grow into feelings of self-blame and being trapped and powerless, in a cage of one’s own making. Lunenburg speaks to potential in everyone to find the courage to forgive their past and gain the freedom to reshape their future.

THE CHARACTERS

Characters and Actors (Ages listed are playing ages, but also illustrate age relative to the other roles)

  • Natalie (Female identifying)— (late 40’s-early 50s) A free spirit and more outgoing personality in her younger years, she has been worn down by the weight of emotional baggage from multiple relationship and personal disappointments over the years. Best friend of and somewhat more sophisticated than Iris.
  • Iris (Female identifying)— (late 40’s-early 50s) A latecomer to emotional happiness, who is now dealing with her world being turned upside down, through personal loss and distrust of her own inner self. A product of a blue-collar upbringing. Best friend of Natalie.
  • Charlie (Male identifying)— (late 40’s-early 50s) Projects an air of downhome simplicity and good-naturedness that masks a more worldly-wise persona that he has partially submerged, due to disillusionment with many of his previous relationships.

Important Intimacy Note: There is a significant degree of physical intimacy required (kissing) between the Natalie and Charlie characters. Auditionees are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the full play to ensure they are comfortable with this before auditioning for one of these roles.
