Taking a long car trip? Trapped on the subway during the summer commutes to work? Working out, or just out for walk?

Why not enjoy a good book while you are on the move? Audiobooks are a terrific opportunity to gain a new appreciation of books. A good narrator can make all the difference. Once you’ve found a voice you like, just search for the rest of his or her work; you’ll be surprised how many new authors you will discover this way.

Uncommon r One of the best audiobooks I listened to last year was Alan Bennett reading his book The Uncommon Reader, in which Queen Elizabeth II suddenly takes up reading to the neglect of her royal duties.

This year, my favourite has to be Simon Vance reading the season’s big hit, the Millennium Trilogy, by Stieg Larsson, (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who played with Fire, The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) Girl

Ian Right now, I am listening to an eAudiobook, of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson tale, Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, read by veteran stage and screen actor, Ian Holm. Check out the rest of our eAudiobooks, available online for free with your library card!

Don’t know where to start? Why not start with our list of the latest audiobooks. Or check out award-winning performances such as Audiophile magazine's, Earphones Award Winners, or Audie Award winners and finalists.

It’s all in the voice!

  1. The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo is a very good audiobook… I’m listening to The Last Child by John Hart at the moment – Southern mystery where a kid sets out to solve the mystery of his missing twin sister.
