The Art of Being Versace

Versace House of Versace: The untold story of genius, murder and survival is a well-written, dramatic and absorbing story that begins in a luxury hotel room above the Spanish Steps in Rome where Donatella Versace is planning her latest show. Her deliberations are shattered by a phone call delivering the news that her brother Gianni has been senselessly murdered in Miami. The fortunes of the House then fall to Donatella who emerges in this account as sympathetic person in an impossible situation.

Deborah Ball’s account of the rise of the House of Versace from its beginnings in the poverty of Southern Italy to the pinnacle of success in Milan, New York and Paris is based on her own reporting — hundreds of interviews with the major players in the story, including Donatella herself.

Vividly conveyed is that the Versaces were a family of workaholics — that their success came from hours of hard work every day for years.

Light, fast-paced, and packed with action — this book is hard to put down.
