Scotiabank Giller Shortlist Announced
On October 4, the shortlist for the 2011 Scotiabank Giller prize was announced. The prize was established in 1994 by Jack Rabinovitch in honour of his wife, literary journalist Doris Giller. It has become Canada's most distinguished literary award, presenting a $50,000 prize to the author of the best novel or short story collection published in English.
In 2010, the award was presented to Johanna Skibsrud for her debut novel, The Sentimentalists.
This year six titles are on the shortlist:
The Antagonist by Lynn Coady
Better Living Through Plastic Explosives by Zsuzsi Gartner
The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje
The Free World by David Bezmozgis
Half-Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt

The winner will be announced on November 8.

Can’t wait to read all of them! I already half way through Lynn Coady’s novel (thanks to the TPL!). Have enjoyed all of her novels and short story collections to date. Thanks for the Giller post!
