April Read

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Fahrenheit-451-193x300In this classic dystopian novel, free thought has been
blocked out by technology. In this society it is illegal to own books. It is
the job of firemen like Guy Montag to confiscate books and destroy them along
with the houses where they have been hidden. Although he has never questioned
his role, Montag begins to have doubts after he meets a young neighbour
Clarisse McClellan, a book lover who challenges his beliefs.

Examining his world
critically for the first time, Montag realizes that the people around him have
constructed lives surrounded by interactive entertainment with little
connection to reality. Curious about another way of life and about the power of
books, Montag steals one from a collection he is responsible for destroying and
begins to read.
