Honey bee

Last week scientists from the US Department of Agriculture and the University of Maryland published a study that may help to explain the worldwide honeybee population decline. Although one single cause for Colony Collapse Disorder cannot be identified, it is believed that the use of fungicides and pesticides may be responsible for suppressing bees' immune systems making them more susceptible to parasites.

Bees are responsible for pollinating 75% of the food eaten in Canada. The Canadian Honey Council reports that the bee population in this country has declined by 35% since 2010.
