The Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction: 2013 Winner
Established in 1991 by writer and literary journalist Edna Staebler, this award is the only one in Canada that celebrates creative non-fiction. Creative non-fiction is "literary not journalistic. The writer does not merely give information but intimately shares an experience with the reader by telling a factual story using the devices of fiction". The prize is restricted to Canadian authors for their first or second published book.
The 2013 winner is Carol Shaben for Into the Abyss: How a Deadly Plane Crash Changed the Lives of a Pilot, a Politician, a Criminal and a Cop.
