Book of the Week: Studio Saint-Ex by Ania Szado
This week Book Buzz was fortunate to host an online visit from Ania Szado. If you missed it, you can read the transcript.
The author's second novel Studio Saint-Ex is set in 1942 among the French expatriate community in New York. Montrealer Mignonne Lachapelle has come to the city to begin her career as a fashion designer. Through her ties with the Alliance Français de New York, she meets Antoine Saint-Exupéry and his wife Consuelo Suncin. Their relationship is passionate and tumultuous; although they live separately, she remains his muse. Mignonne quickly finds her own life entangled with the Saint-Exupérys. Consuelo is a client, then a business partner; Antoine shares Mignonne's studio and quickly becomes her romantic partner.
The novel is full of wonderfully drawn characters and provides a welcome escape into the past.
