Funny People – Funny Memoirs
I've always enjoyed reading biographies, but in the last few years I've become a fan of listening to memoirs in audiobook format. This is particularly enjoyable when the author is the narrator of the audiobook and a natural storyteller – like most comedians.
The first one I listened to is still my favourite, This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection by Carol Burnett. I loved listening to her stories from her personal life and career while going for a walk during my lunch breaks. Much to my chagrin, I would often end up laughing out loud. Luckily, I was usually away from other people, but it felt a bit inappropriate as I often walk in the cemetery across the street.
I really loved the Carol Burnett show when it was on television- particularly when Tim Conway made poor Harvey Korman laugh and break character. Listening to this memoir was like experiencing an extended version of the Q&A section of that classic show. If you have not watched her variety show (or would love to see some of the famous skits again), check out the Carol's Favorites Collection from the Carol Burnett Show in DVD.
If you are interested in checking it out, Carol's memoir is available just about every format:
• Large Print
