Did You Miss Pie Day?

According to the American Pie Council, January 23rd was National Pie Day.   I don't know about you, but I think pie is a great thing to celebrate.    This is a day that we should adopt here in Canada.

When I came across this information, it occurred to me that there are quite a number of books with Pie in their title.   I guess I'm not the only one who loves pie!

Here are a few of them.  Can you think of any others?

Canadian Pie Christmas pudding Guernsey Pigeon pie Sweetness in the bottom

Canadian Pie by Will Ferguson.  This is three-time Stephen Leacock Medal winner (and Giller Prize winner) Will Ferguson's collection of humourous tales of his travels in Canada.

Christmas Pudding and Pigeon Pie by Nancy Mitford. Two early comic novels by British novelist Nancy Mitford together in one volume.  Pigeon Pie is set during the beginning of the Second World War (it was originally published in 1940) and is a satirical story about the aristocratic Sophia who becomes bored with volunteering at first aid posts and sets about unravelling a German spy network.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer.  In 1946, author Juliet Ashton is having a terrible time finding inspiration for her next book. Then she receives a letter from Guernsey Island, and learns of a unique book club formed on the spur of the moment as an alibi to protect its members from arrest by the occupying Germans during the war. Captivated, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds there will change her life forever. One of my all-time favourites!

Alligator pieOf course, no list about books with pie in the title would be complete without the classic children's book of poetry, Alligator Pie by our own Dennis Lee.

It's also available in eBook.

All together now…  "Alligator pie, alligator pie, if I don't get some, I think I'm going to die!…
