The girlsThe Girls by Emma Cline

Set in the late 1960s, The Girls explores teenage insecurity and the search for belonging that leads one young girl to a decision that has long-lasting consequences.

Fourteen-year-old Evie Boyd is reeling from her paren'ts recent divorce and the end of a close friendship. In the chaos of her family life, she feels abandoned and even worse–unnoticed. With nothing to do and no one to talk to, she mostly hangs around waiting for something to happen. Something happens when she sees a group of girls in a park scavenging for food. She is immediately drawn to them and becomes obsessed with Suzanne, a glamorous older girl in the group. To her delight, Evie soon finds herself accepted by the girls and begins spending time with them on their ranch commune home where she meets the charismatic man who is their leader. The book is written from the perspective of a middle aged  Evie looking back on her days with a soon to be infamous cult.
