The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Daniel Sempere is ten years old when his father takes him to The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a strange library that contains books that have lost their owners or that have been forgotten by everyone. Those who have visit the library are permitted to take a single book and protect it forever. Daniel picks a book called The Shadow of the Wind to adopt. He reads it and becomes curious about other books by its author, Julian Carax but cannot find any. He does learn about a man named Laín Coubert who is on a mission to acquire and destroy all of Carax’s works. Knowledge of Daniel’s acquisition spreads among book dealers and before long, Daniel is visited by Coubert who is willing to stop at nothing to get the book.
