2019 Booker Prize Longlist Revealed |

The longlist for the 2019 Booker Prize was announced on July 24, 2019. Called the Man Booker Prize between 2002-2019, the Booker Prize has been one of the world's most prestigious literary prizes since its inception in 1969. Until 2014, the award was eligible only to authors from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Commonwealth countries, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The rules were changed to include any English-language novel available in the United Kingdom.

This year the nominees include two authors who have previously won'the award: Salman Rushdie, a winner in 1981 for Midnight's Children and Margaret Atwood who won in 2000 for The Blind Assassin. Two other authors on the longlist have previously been nominated: Chigozie Obioma for The Fisherman in 2015 and Deborah Levy in 2012 for Swimming Home and 2016 for Hot Milk.

This year's longlist includes several books not available in Canada at this time. Several including Atwood's The Testaments and Rushdie's Quichotte will be published soon.
