Farewell to Terry Goodkind, 1948-2020
American fantasy author Terry Goodkind passed away on September 17, 2020, at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Jeri.
Goodkind was famous for his epic series, The Sword of Truth. The books follow a standard fantasy plot, but Goodkind injected a darkness into his stories, as well as the ideas of Ayn Rand, that made them stand out. Goodkind was still working on the series he began in 1994, which currently numbers twenty-one books. His last book will be published in June 2020.
The Sword of Truth was also adapted as a television series by Sam Raimi. Called "Legend of the Seeker," it ran for two seasons.
The dyslexic Goodkind never thought he would be an author. Yet, during his lifetime he wrote over 30 bestselling novels. He sold more than 26 million books that have been published in more than 20 languages world-wide. His works are considered to be essential to the fantasy genre.

The Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation and Fantasy has a signed first edition of this book, as well as the rest of Goodkind's work.
