Favorite Read-aloud Books in Toddler Time
Two favourite books in Toddler Time are Nancy Tafuri’s Five Little Chicks and The Busy Little Squirrel. These simple stories, with rhyming and repetitive text, can be enjoyed over and over again with your baby. They have realistic animal drawings and there is alot for you and your baby to look at and talk about – from counting, to colours, to how animals behave, what they eat, and the sounds they make. Nancy Tafuri also has a website linking you to her world of stories: www.nancytafuri.net
I Went Walking and Let's Go Visiting, both by Sue Williams and illustrated by Julie Vivas are playful stories also with rhyming and rhythmical text. There are foals, calves, kittens and puppies to count and have fun with! These colourful, playful pictures of animals are always a favorite with toddlers. Another Sue Williams book, Dinnertime!, is a suspenseful rhyming story about six fat rabbits and a hungry fox. This book is illustrated by Kerry Argent.
