Financial Literacy Program for Newcomers
This morning I came across an interesting article in the Metro about a financial literacy program being offered at Toronto's WoodGreen Community Services. This course helps newcomers learn about financial services in Canada, teaching them about service charges, high-interest credit, taxes, budgeting and other money matters. It is a pilot program called Financial Literacy for Newcomers, funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Sahida Addetia, a WoodGreen's settlement services manager said, "We found that quite often, newcomers lack the language, terminologies and knowledge in financial services in Canada. That sometimes get them into all sort of trouble, losing money, and getting into debt." This course if a great idea!
