Are They Legit?

It's always good to know something about a company before committing to their services. But I've found that, other than through word of mouth, it can be difficult to discover whether a company is on the up-and-up.

However, I've recently discovered the Consumer Beware List, provided by Ontario's Ministry of Consumer Services.

It lists companies, by industry, which have had complaints lodged against them regarding unfair practises, such as the giving of misleading information, failure to provide proper contracts, failure to refund money (or failure to do so within a specific time frame), and other wrongdoings.

The list also indicates whether a company has been convicted of any charges and what the penalties are.

Industry/service categories include moving companies, career guidance providers, children's summer camps, loan brokers, talent agencies, breeders, and many more.

It may be wise to check it out before hiring a service provider.
