For Your 2011 Prosperity
The past year saw a continuation of volatility in the stock market, low interest rates, soaring prices for gold and silver, weakening house prices, the Canadian dollar almost on par with the US dollar, and increasing concern over the price of oil inching towards US$100 a barrel with a return of inflation exacerbated by recent government stimulus spending and a consequent impact on the bond market which has been the safe haven for risk averse investors in recent years. The doomsayers for 2011 see a potential slowing of the Canadian economy and global economic repercussions from the burgeoning U.S. public debt, the European sovereign debt crisis, and the likely cooling of the business boom in China. In the face of the growing fickleness of various investment vehicles in a climate of greater economic uncertainty, there is need to ensure that our investment portfolios are well diversified by asset, industry, time horizon, and geography, and that we make the best of advice from investment experts.
