Your 2013 New Years Resolution : Make your money matter
It's a new year – full of lots of resolutions. Make one that will matter for years to come – getting your finances in order. Toronto Public Library has a variety of resources to assist you in making this year the best for becoming knowledgeable about investing and managing your personal finances. The library's resources include a variety of formats to assist you.
January to March launches TPL's first Money Matters series. Check out programs given by Gordon Pape, Ellen Roseman and Pat Foran, to name a few. The series will kick off with a Star Talks event at the Appel Salon at the Toronto Reference Library with Toronto Star columnist Ellen Roseman interviewing BMO Vice President and Chief Economist Sherry Cooper on the global financial crisis and what it means for you.
Check out some of the electronic resources to assist you in making your investment decisions, available to you with your Toronto Public Library card :
- Valueline includes stock reports and covers most actively traded U.S. exchange-listed stocks, small and mid-cap stocks, mutual funds, options, convertibles and special situations.
- Financial Post Advisor includes information on Canadian publicly traded companies, private companies, Crown corporations and municipal and provincial agencies as well as predecessors and defunct companies and industry reports.
- Mergent Online includes global financial data on public companies including business descriptions, fundamental data, key financial ratios, earnings estimates, stock information and current headline news.
The library also subscribes to a number of investment periodicals. Check out some of the recent editions of:
- Money. The December 2012 issue is devoted to Make More Money in 2013. Articles include "4 smart moves to make now" and "35 money leaks and how to plug them".
- Canadian MoneySaver: Financial Advice for Your Everyday Use. The November/December, 2012 issue headlines Six Graham stocks for 2013, as well as 77 investment mistakes, and how to identify a great rental property.
- MoneySense. The December/January 2013 issue features the top 200 Canadian stocks. This issue also includes the top 500 American stocks, as well as a profile of how 9 Canadians achieved their financial goals.
