Find out about Cold Calling at Fairview Branch
Cold calling (or the act of soliciting business from a client you have had no previous contact with) is a practice that has both its advocates and its detractors. Criticised by some as a way of drumming up new business that’s heavy on investment and low on return, advocates argue that when done properly, cold calling can be an excellent and effective way to increase your business’ client base.
In a column on the Globe and Mail's website, B2B sales veteran Tibor Shanto states:
“I’m still a firm believer in cold calling and its importance to any business-to-business prospecting and client acquisition regimen. But on a regular basis some pundit will proclaim as loud as possible: COLD CALLING IS DEAD. . . . I suspect it’s because many of these experts are offering little more than the sales version of those late-night infomercial ab-firming machine peddlers” (Globe and Mail, Tuesday Sept 3, 2013).
If you run a small business, the prospect of cold calling new clients may send shivers up your spine. A notoriously difficult skill to master, cold calling might be an great tool for continuing to build your company.
Toronto Public Library has lots of books describing the ins and outs of cold calling, many of which can be found in our online, access-anywhere Safari Tech & Business Books Online resource.
The Fairview Branch's Small Business Network is happy to invite cold call expert Tom Kaufmann to its April session.
