Digitize Your Old Slides
The Digital Design Studio at the Toronto Reference Library has a lot to offer and I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a really unique service.
I think most people who have old photos, probably also have a stack of old 35mm slides and film. I hear time and time again from people who have kept these slides in a box for a good decade or more. These people find it a waste to have them stored and want to be able to have a look at them on a regular basis and possibly re-print a few of them.
They've probably just sat in a box in storage for a good decade or more. You probably would love to have a look at them and maybe possibly even re-print a few of them. You just don't know how to get started.
The Digital Design Studio has the answer! The studio offers a range of scanners and one of those scanners is a dedicated 35mm film and slide scanner. The Nikon LS-4000 has the capability of scanning your old film/slides with enough resolution to enlarge the image for printing as big as 16 x 20 inches.
Sometime scanning slides on a traditional flatbed scanner with a transparency adaptor will make the image less sharp and out of focus. The Nikon scanner is built only for this format, it scans the image and it also ensures a clean, crisp, and focused image in the end.
Additionally, this scanner has a lot of extra features that can make your old slide new again. Film tends to attract a lot of dust, dirt and even fingerprints. With a feature called Digital ICE, the scanner can make the image look like it was meant to be. Flawless.
Here are some technical specifications on the scanner:
- 4,000-dpi true optical-resolution scanning,
- Fast scanning at 4,000 dpi (approx. 38 sec. including image transfer to display)
- New setup function for color negative film, featuring intelligent tone and color auto-correction
- Quick AF & Quick Preview
- Roll film-scanning capability (with optional ROLL FILM ADAPTER SA-30 attached)
- Improved Color Management System accuracy
- Digital ICE³™ : automatic correction function removes dust, scratches and finger prints from scanned images
Digitize your old images quickly and easily! Take advantage of staff assistance in the Digital Design Studio to show you how to get started.
