Sneak Preview: Digital Innovation Hub at Toronto Reference Library

The Digital Design Studio at Toronto Reference Library closed on Friday, Dec. 13.

In early 2014, an exciting new space called the Digital Innovation Hub will open on the main floor of the Reference Library. This new digital learning, collaboration and creation spaces will provide users of all ages and skill levels access to current and emerging technologies that will allow them to create a broad range of digital media including audio, video, photography, 3D design, web and graphic design.

The new technology offered will include those formerly offered at the Digital Design Studio.

Tech offered at the Digital Innovation Hub will include iMacs and PCs, a HD video camera and green screen, audio mixers, tablets, scanners, and a 3D printer and 3D scanner. Software offered will include Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro.

A second Digital Innovation Hub will open at the new Fort York Branch also in early 2014.

The library will offer free programs and classes through both Digital Innovation Hubs. Programs at the Reference Library will include Monthly MeetUps on topics like robotics, wearable technology, and co-working.  

User education classes will cover topics like Web Design, Photoshop, as well as classes on the new technologies, including 3D Design. The library will also host our very first ever Repair Café link to in February.

Look for more updates about the Digital Innovation Hub in the coming weeks.

A note to former Digital Design Studio users:

While the library prepares to open the Digital Innovation Hub, a PC and an Epson Perfection V700 photo flatbed scanner is available for use outside the Learning Centres on the main floor of Toronto Reference Library. To use the scanner, please speak to staff at the Access Desk on the main floor.

    Looks like old Digital Design Studio has been placed on the goody good list with all these new hardware and software upgrades, new services, and programs additions.. Way to Go Guys !

    The addition of New 3D printers & 3D scanning to make 3D printing development of figures even easier
    We’re taking those 2D drawings into the third dimension of the 360 degree world.
    New Programs like Repair Café workshops on how to fix things, Monthly MeetUps- on various topics like robots, wearable tech, co-op environments like co working to develop your projects, and guest speakers on various tech subjects..So if you want to learn new stuff this is the place to shop.
    And if you thought, that was it, well, you would be wrong because, as a Bonus, a totally all NEW branch has been built the “Fort York Branch“ will be opening up with a second, New, Digital Innovation Hub! How fantastic is that !!
    2014 is going to be one Awesome, Happenin’ year at the New Digital Innovation Hubs of events, .. the gift for all to enjoy! At the library that keeps thinking ahead with the exciting knowledge required in today’s world.

  2. Is this going to cost us anything? I remember the Digital Design Studio had a fee and it wasn’t cheap! I’m looking forward to the photo editing courses. Its mid January and nothing has been posted for Photoshop or Lightroom classes.

  3. Hi Rose,
    The new Digital Innovation Hub will be free. The computers will have software and hardware that was similar and yet new when compared to the Digital Design Studio.
    As for the classes you mentioned, the dates for Photoshop 1 & 2 have been posted already and some classes have already been conducted.
