Natural Cures for Monthly Female Discomfort!
This one is for the ladies. Or the men who are in desperate need to help their ladies feel better during her most uncomfortable time of the month. We have all been there, haven't we ladies? Trying to ease the discomfort of our monthly cycles, pre, during and post event. While the easy and quick fix may be to reach for some pain-killers and other drugs, I would like to suggest some more natural remedies (using herbs and such) I have come across as a healthier alternative to help support my attempted healthier lifestyle this year.
naturalhealthmag.com has the natural answers to help us discover "The Nine Best Herbs for Women," "The Super Simple Guide to Healing Herbs–Part Two," "Herbs that Heal," and "Herbs for Hormones" to help ease female discomfort at any age.
Some Quick Tips:
- CHASTE TREE BERRY capsules- for PMS
- BLACK COHOSH root or pill- for hot flashes, night sweats (menopause)
- CRANBERRY- prevention for UTIs (juice or pill form)
- FLAX SEED- heart health- add to ceral, yogurt, shakes, etc.
- FEVERFEW- migraines- fried or fresh leaves
- TURMERIC- cancer prevention- use the spice in food, or take in capsule form
- GREEN TEA- cancer prevention- 6-10 cups of organic green tea/per day
- GINGER- for nausea- dried form, cook with it
Of course you always want to check for allergies or other complications by speaking with your doctor before taking any of these, as you would with any drug, vitamin, or supplement.

Note to Emoke:
Using the word “lady” when the word “woman” is more appropriate.
woman: generic word for a female human being
man: generic word for a male human being
lady: a woman of refined behavior and speech
gentleman: a man of refined behavior and speech
It is somewhat insulting to be called βlady,β a word that suggests hypocrisy, as in “Working women today demand equal pay”, not “Working ladies today demand equal pay”. See the difference?
Pretty high falutin’ talk for someone who uses the tag “Verily” π
Webster:
old-fashioned : certainly or truly
βͺ I verily believe that this post doth use outdated language
Point taken. But context is everything. And apologies if that is your real name!
I’m going to check out these resources and ask my doctor about using black cohosh. Thanks for the info.
I agree with Verily. While the information and recommendations in this post are excellent, the general tone is sexist and condescending.
I also question the tone, but hey, at least there is no talk of “delicate constitutions”.
I found this post both fun and helpful. I believe the intent of the post was to share resources and information, and the use of “ladies” was meant respectfully. I’m very interested in natural remedies and will certainly have a look at some of the titles mentioned.
One more suggestion:
Couple of years ago I read this book: “Reflections of the Moon on Water: Healing Women’s Bodies and Minds through Traditional Chinese Wisdom” by Canadian TCM practitioner Xiaolan Zhao.
It was a very accessible, gentle introduction into traditional Chinese medicine and helped me deepen my understanding and accept all stages of womanhood as spiritual, timely and precious. She also gives examples of recipes such as warm nourishing teas and soups for what in the Western culture is called “PMS”.
I really enjoyed your blog π I’ve heard about the effects of cranberry before, but not the other ones! Thanks for the suggestions!
Straight out of a 1950s ladies magazine.
It’s quite motivating to see so many comments on this post! I was trying to keep a light, friendly, and relatable tone throughout, and apologize to anyone who feels the language was offensive. My intent was to help other women out and provide information about resources that might be used to better our lives. Iβm encouraged that some of you are going to do more of your own research.
Thanks for sharing this post, Im also interested in herbal alternatives in all areas health, beauty and wellness. I would be interested in learning more about herbal extracts for makeup, hair and skin !
