Staying fit when it’s dreary and cold

Did you know that exercise is good for your brain as well as your body? It is so easy to keep active and stay fit during the summer months. Warm weather activities, such as biking, jogging, swimming, soccer and tennis, don't require much equipment and can be done (somewhat) at the spur of a moment.

I once read an article in Runner's World about committed runners, who run in -25o F weather, on icy sidewalks in the middle of winter. It isn't even close to that in Toronto in November–but still, it is cold, wet and windy outside…and dark so much earlier in the evening. So, I have changed my work-out regimen to somewhere indoors. I am pretty frugal, so what better, cheaper and more convenient place to exercise than at home? No need to change out of pyjamas.

My kids and I like doing Wii Fit and holding Just Dance competitions using our Wii console. When I want to concentrate on exercising, I like working out with Jessica Smith. Her style is like that of a motivational friend, rather than a personal trainer. Her work-outs can be found at the library on DVDs as well as on her website

The library has many titles ranging from boot camp to yoga to weight lifting to stretching to chair exercises. Here are a few suggestions of regular and e-versions of DVDs, books and magazines:

  1. Very nice blog and good tips covered. Those who like to stay fit take proper diet and exercise daily. I am doing it, because obesity is Not My Type.
