  1. It’s a puzzling commentary on the state of fitness among people in the prosperous countries that the more we seem to KNOW about what is good about our body the LESS we seem to use it — the rising rates of not just overweight but also obesity attest to it, and barely budging down.
    Maybe what we need before we go about building muscles — or even health, longer life; more money or fame, or power; more anything — is WHY do I want it?
    The question is important — it forces you question your motives which can lead to clarity about what our needs and wants. Then we may be able to glean that what matters most in life is what Aristotle calls a flourishing life; what Plato said that the part cannot be well unless the whole is well.
    Once we have a sense of the right order about life fitness would become a side effect of a life that NEEDS to be lived, a life that is good for not just you but for the humanity and nature around you. Or as Victor Frankl has said in his book Man’s Search for Meaning, that success and happiness ensue while you are living a meaningful life. I will include health, too, in his insightful observation.
