Global Running Day June 6, 2018
Global Running Day is on June 6, 2018 and is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving! It doesn’t matter how fast you run or how far you go — what’s important is that you take part, and how you do it is up to you.
Now for those of you who are thinking I don't run, give me a moment to change your mind. Running doesn't have to be the marathon-training, ultra-regimented, headphones in and little water bottle fanny-pack approach. It can be whatever you want it to be! You can incorporate it into your already established fitness regime or you can just step out your front door and run down the street. The true beauty of running is you can just start doing it and you can always fit it in.
Outside of the obvious health benefits of running, including strengthening muscles & cardiovascular fitness, did you know there are some serious wellness benefits to running? Here are just a few to pique your interest:
- Runner's high is real

- It can be a form of meditation
- It keeps you sharper as you age
- It increases your creativity
- It helps you sleep better
If I have convinced you to get up and try a run on June 6th (or any other day), then I've done my job! If you're already a runner and didn't know about this healthy holiday, mark your calendars! If you're looking to get inspired about running, check out these resources:

The 30-Minute Runner: Smart Training for Busy Beginners
By Duncan Larkin & Dr. Mike Moreno
Everything in the book, including training schedules, techniques and tips, is put forth purely in terms of minutes spent running, without any goal paces to worry about, mileage to keep track of, or anything to measure other than time spent out on the roads and trails. The book focuses on how to maximize those 30 critical minutes in order to achieve two primary goals: shedding extra pounds and completing a 5K race.
