@torontolibrary NYCL Crowd Gave Thumbs Up to Crowdfunding @HiveWireCA
On October 29th, one by one, the crowd trickled into the North York Central Library. It was my great pleasure to introduce our guest speaker, the person with the coolest Twitter bio:
"Went from orbiting the planet, playing with robots to landing back on Terra Firma and diving into crowdfunding", Asier Ania of www.hivewire.ca .
Asier gave us an amazing and thorough tour of "Crowdfunding 101", sharing great examples of the power of crowdfunding. Who can forget the one about the Griz Coat http://grizcoat.com/pages/about-us or building pedestrian bridges in Rotterdam by The Dutch School of Landscape Design ?http://vimeo.com/49963764 , The Toronto Tool Library http://torontotoollibrary.com/
Here are a few highlights:
- Key Success Factors include an idea that meets a need and a pitch; strong networking (existing customers), a great marketing campaign (social media presence, testimonials), and enticing rewards.
- You need "a creative and authentic 3 minute video but remember sound trumps production quality".
- Know your target audience. It takes a lot of effort! Test and iterate with your friends and family, people in the industry, your backers.
- "Stories add meaning and meaning ignites action. Make people feel your message, not just understand it." Terry O'Reilly, CBC's Under The Influence
Asier, you inspired our 50 aspiring entrepreneurs to move forward on our ideas, our stories, and our dreams! Thank you.
