Are You an Executive Over 40? Over 50? Re-careering?

Are you an executive over 40 or 50 looking for a new position because of recession layoffs? It's likely to be one of the toughest tasks to take on in your career. Take heart and stay positive about your future because your wealth of skills and extensive experience will see you through to a new position!

It typically takes 10 to 16 months to find a position at your level. During that time, there is a lot that you can do to speed up the process. Many companies have hired career transition firms to assist employees from the moment they are terminated to finding a new job. The career counsellors will help you go through a grieving process for your lost job. Next, they will thoroughly assess your career, identifying main skills and aptitudes and then match them with areas with potential employment. Then they will help you prepare a resume and assist you with interview skills training. At every step of the way, you can'take strong action such as researching companies that interest you and that may have openings, networking  at all possible venues (It probably doesn't surprise you to know that two-thirds of all new jobs were found this way!), setting up a daily schedule whereby you will accomplish certain job search tasks, and following up with the career counsellor.
