Career information: Toronto Public Library has online and print resources
Are you thinking about more education and training? Is a career change in the picture? Do you want to know what careers would be best for you? Get help from Toronto Public Library's on-line services and from new books about today's careers.
CareerCruising is a Canadian website about careers. I like Career Matchmaker which gives careers suggestions. Answer 39 questions about your likes and dislikes, then get a list of careers. If you wish, you can fine-tune the results by answering a few more questions.
You can compare a career with the profile you have created. Find out what the jobs are really like – job descriptions, working conditions, earnings and a typical day from two people in the field. Information about colleges and university programs too. Career Cruising is used by schools across the country and is now available in French too. Choose French on the top right side after signing in with your library card and creating your free account.
Career Information Center is 13 volumes of useful information! Sign in with your library card is required. Go to the Gale Virtual Reference Library and choose the title from the Education category.
Click on the eTable of Contents, then use the drop-down menu (click on Go). Or use the search box on the left to check specific careers.
Want more information? Click on Basic Search to go to all the on-line Gale encyclopedias. Search in document title or keyword for articles. For example, accounting career or environmental careers.
Interested in starting your own business? Check out the business plans in the Business section of Gale Virtual Reference Library.
