Spotlight on The Riley Guide – recommended website

The Riley Guide has been around for years but it is up-to-date in focus. It aims to provide instruction for job seekers on how to use the Internet to their best advantage. 

Here are some particularly useful pages of the website:

How to use the internet in your job search   Riley recommends that you spend only one-quarter (25%) of the your job search time online, …"unless you are a techie who is working in any area related  to computer networks or programming. In that case, move it up to one-half (50%) of your time, but make sure your skills arcurrent in order to be your most competitive". Read "Managing your time online" to learn more.

Prepare your resume for e-mail and online posting  Plain text, HTML, rules for responding online and privacy – read all about it!

Disclosing salary requirements   What to do when the employer asks you to include the salary you want in your application.

Networking advice   How to's and netiquette (online manners).
 
Canadian resources   Many of the Riley Guide's job post sites have Americans jobs only but this useful list of Canadian websites includes this blog!
