Portfolios:
Two new strategies for job hunters – accreditation portfolios and career or job skills portfolios.
- Newcomers to Canada and those who have been internationally educated should consider an accreditation portfolio.
"An Accreditation Portfolio is a collection of documents such as comparative evaluation, assessment of foreign credentials, work history, and other documents with the purpose of getting professional recognition in Canada." Your portfolio would include your resume, documents and certificates about your education and training, testimonials from employers which confirm your specific skills and photographs, drawings, videos, etc.
Check with your employment counselor to see whether there will be a free session about accreditation portfolios at your centre or check this calendar for workshops.
- Career or job skills portfolio. Just as artists would use a portfolio to showcase their work, you can pull together information to demonstrate your education, experience and skills. This is different from the accreditation portfolio for internationally trained – normally you would bring it to the interview. More websites on career portfolios.
