Searching for information on a company is an important step when you are compiling a list of companies to cold-call and particularly crucial if you have an upcoming interview and you do not know much about the company.
Here is a good place to start: Financial Post Advisor provides information on Canadian publicly traded companies, private companies, Crown corporations and municipal and provincial agencies. Here, you will find details about companies, information on predecessors and defunct companies, investor reports, historical reports, industry reports, information on dividends, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Most updates are daily, making this online database very current. When you login, you will see links on the left-hand side to Company Snapshots, Companies By Industry, Corporate Surveys, etc. Toronto Public Library's subscription allows you to search for company information and to browse for industry news by subject. TPL did not subscribe to the News Monitoring, Video Monitoring or News Archives section of this database.
You can use Company Snapshots to find an overview of a publicly traded Canadian company as well as its industry. The overview gives you a 10-year price range and 10 top sector players and industry news on over 5 600 companies. Key executives such as CEO and CFO are listed, as well as company news links to the National Post.
