Laid off? Second Career training might be for you.

Second Career is an Ontario Government program that provides up to $28,000 to support laid-off Ontarians who wish to train for a new career. This includes tuition, travel, books and other training-related costs. This program is co-sponsored by Employment Ontario, Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office and Flemingdon Park Library. Services are available in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Hindko and Urdu.

Who can apply? Laid-off workers – including those who have taken an interim job to make ends meet.

How long do you have to be out of work to apply? If you were laid-off any time after January 1, 2005, you're eligible to apply for Second Career.

Where and When? Meet your Second Career counsellor every second Friday of the month at the Flemingdon Park Library Auditorium. (2nd floor).

Additional funds may be available for people with disabilities, and for people who need help to pay for academic upgrading, the costs of living away from home, or child care. Drop in.

  1. Wow! It’s amazing to read about someone ready to help you when almost everyone has suffered the cosequences of the crisis. It really can make you feel better, I mean information like this.

  2. The Second Career office here in town wasted almost a year when I applied. Initially my applications were lost. They did not apologize. They did not even submit my application for funding when they informed me they were, and are still tinkering, almost a year later. Meanwhile the rules have changed making approval exceedingly more difficult.
