Aim for the Target – Labour Market Research
Research the job market to ensure that your job search is targeted on the best prospects. That's what the experts tell us. And it is good advice. But how? Most of us are not market researchers by training. Yet understanding where the jobs are has never been more important:
Some industries and companies are better prospects than others. How do you find out what industries and companies are growing and, therefore, most likely to be hiring?
Here are a couple of great websites to get you started:
What is Labour Market Information: Do I Need It?
Labour Market Information – This site provides information on job prospects for specific occupations (see Build Your Job Search Profile), plus information on wages and a listing of potential employers by occupation.
TIP: Read the Business section of a daily newspaper like the Globe & Mail or Toronto Star. Or watch the business portion of the news on TV. Watch for features on companies that are growing, or whose stocks are performing well. Then visit the company(s) website. Look in the careers section of the company websites. Many companies have one. Or contact the company for an informational interview.
