Finding Good Job and Career Websites

August 10, 2010 | Frances | Comments (3)

Toronto Public Library librarians have selected some of the best websites on job hunting, resumes, employment interviews, upgrading and training.

You can find them in a few ways.

First, you can find some highlighted in our Find Your Way to Job & Career Help in the new library website.

Second, you can retrieve them when you search the website for books, DVDs, programs, etc.

  • For example, a search for resumes retrieves books as well as a sampling of websites on the right side.
  • Click on More recommended websites to search for more with this keyword.

Third, you can browse all the websites.

  • Click on Books, Videos, Research & more page on the dark nav bar on the library home page.
  • Then click on Recommended Websites (left menu).
  • Click on Job Search and Careers from the results in the centre of the page.
  • Select a website category (left), for example, Resumes, Cover Letters and References
  • You can also fine-tune your category search by clicking on a subtopic.
  • If you are adventurous, you can keyword search the results by typing in the search box and ticking the check box below it to keep your limiters. You will be searching for keywords assigned to websites by the indexers.

And guess what, you have just learned how to use TPL’s new website!

  2. Gulam, first, get free help from an Employment Resource Centre. That’s my best tip. Check out this blog post about help, especially Transitions to Employment programs:

You should also check library programs. For example, many have 4-day workshops just for newcomers who are job hunting. See:

    Good luck!
