Which universities will get you a job?

As I was cruising the newsstand recently, the March 7, 2011, issue of Macleans magazine caught my eye.  The magazine does an annual "student issue" that this year included a number of interesting topics.  The one that I found intriguing was an article on the University of Regina, which promises a year's free tuition to graduates who can't find work.  It goes on to discuss whether schools should be in the business of turning out employable graduates.

The issue also includes a list of "hot" post graduate programs, including the program name, explanation of why it's a "hot" degree and the college that offers the courses, number of applications from the past year and number accepted into the program.  Hot college programs mentioned include Nursing, Mediation – Alternative dispute resolution, and Human resources management to name a few.

Also included, is a list of retail companies that will train university graduates for management positions.

It includes the results of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), specifically the satisfaction questions from the survey such as "I am satisfied with my decision to attend this university" – (agree/stongly agree), with some interesting results.

Macleans is available in print at many branches of the Toronto Public Library, as well as through a number of databases that the library subscribes to, which you can access with your library card.
